Body: Be Active - Physical Health

There are plenty of reasons why being physically active is good for you, such as having a healthier heart and strong joints and bones. But it can also have a positive impact on your mental health.

Even small amounts of exercise can boost your mental alertness, give you more energy and put you in a good mood. It can also reduce stress and anxiety as well as increase your self-esteem. Why not start by trying some of these?

  • Head out for a walk or ride: Have a look at Explore Surrey to find out about some of the best countryside spots in Surrey to get active (for adults, children and the less physically able), including walking for health groups. To help, you can download our iFootpath app where you can get walks straight to your phone, or find organised walks in Surrey.

  • Start with 10 minutes of brisk walking per day: Download the Active 10 app to keep track of your progress.

  • Join a local sports club: Active Surrey has a great collection of sports and activities to take part in and clubs to join

  • Get on your bike: Cycling is a great way to get some exercise. Have a look at the Travel SMART website to find out about cycling routes in Surrey or to book yourself on some cycle training.

  • Join a gym: It might not be for everyone, but visiting a gym a couple of times a week could make a big difference.

  • Try the NHS Choices 12-week weight loss guide: For advice on healthier eating and physical activity.
