We know from our Members Survey that Funding is a key concern.
A detailed Funding Advice note will be available on the Members Area part of the site (password controlled).
However the core information about funding is as follows:
High Sheriff’s Youth Award: Available in sums up to £1,000 for projects that help to make communities safer and reduce crime. Details are on the website: www.surreyhighsheriff.org
Surrey CC Members’ Allocation: Each County Councillor individually has a Members allocation of £11,000 distributed to 'promote community well-being' of the locality covered by the Member. To find out who is your local county councillor, go to the Surrey CC website, then to 'Your Council', then to 'Surrey County Councillors'. Your local county councillor is the first point of contact. See here for more information on the constitution.
Surrey CC PAYP Grants: Details of the new 2009/10 Positive Activities for Young people (PAYP) grants in Surrey are now available. Despite the title PAYP is a targeted fund, but one where the base budget is actually increasing. Early applications are being sought – the first deadline is 16 March. See here for the application form and here for the information pack.
Surrey Community Foundation Grassroots Fund: Surrey Community Foundation is a valuable source of grants generally, and particularly the Grassroots Grants programme which makes grants available in sums up to £5,000 available to smaller organisations with a turnover of up to £30,000. Details are on the website: www.surreycommunityfoundation.org.uk. Or contact Liz Westwood, the Grants manager on 01483 555640, or by email to: liz@surreycommunityfoundation.org.uk
Surrey Community Foundation and Comic Relief Fund: Comic Relief Funding is now available through Surrey Community Foundation to support local community and voluntary groups across Surrey. The deadline for applications is 28th August 2009. Please see: www.surreycommunityfoundation.org.uk.
The Prince's Trust: The Prince's Trust in Surrey now has two kinds of funding currently available: 1. Up to £500 towards a community project 2. Up to £250 for individuals to help with their development and get them into training, education or work.
Government funding streams include the Children’s Fund, Connexions, and Positive Activities for Young People. These are all for targeted work one way or another, but the funding source likely to be of most general relevance is:-
Youth Opportunity Fund (YoF) and Youth Capital Fund(YCF) : Each district/borough has a Borough Youth Award Panel allocation of nearly £92,000. So the total sum available across the County is nearly £1 mill. Bids MUST be led by young people themselves.
For an application form and advice, contact Lin Heffron in the County Council Youth Development Service: Phone: 01483- 519433 or email on lin.heffron@surreycc.gov.uk, or the website: www.surreycc.gov.uk/takethepower
Big Lottery: This is an invaluable web site (www.biglotteryfund.org.uk) at which a range of grants can be found.
Of particular relevance to Surrey Youth Focus Members may be the Awards for All Grants, under which funds can be sought up to £11,000 for projects which have one or more of the following three aims:
• extend access and participation by young people,
• increase skill and creativity
• and improve the quality of life
However, please be aware that the Awards for All small grants programme is changing from April 2009 when other grant funders will be providing their own small grants programme as follows:
The Awards for All website is: www.awardsforall.org.uk or phone the Big Lottery on 0845 4 10 20 30.
BBC Children In Need: The Charity distributes the funds raised each year as grants to organisations that work with disadvantaged children and young people, under the age of 18, living in the UK. It aims to positively change the lives of those affected by: disability; behavioural or psychological problems; poverty or situations of deprivation; and illness, distress, abuse or neglect.
Grants ranging from £500 to over £100,000, for up to three years at a time, are available. Funding is available for a wide range of projects. The Charity is particularly interested in projects that: improve young people's choice and opportunity; enhance young people's abilities; encourage independence;
build confidence and self esteem; involve disabled young people and adults as positive role models; counter negative attitudes and barriers to participation; and
recognise the needs of families and carers.
There are four rounds of deadline each year for the general grant programme, 15 January, 15 April, 15 July, 15 October. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/.
