The Walton Firs Foundation is a charitable trust (charity registration number: 1112830), and a company limited by guarantee (company registration number: 5695208). The Walton Firs Foundation’s charitable aim is to: “Hold, improve and maintain the Walton Firs Activity Centre for the use, education, and enjoyment of young people, providing outdoor, educational, and training activity facilities for all young people.”
The Foundation was established in 2006, with an aim to raise sufficient funds to purchase and maintain a Scout Association-owned campsite near Cobham, in central Surrey. In 2008, the Foundation achieved its initial charitable objective and established Walton Firs Activity Centre, and has subsequently raised over £1M to underwrite its charitable activities. In 2020, the Walton Firs Foundation and Activity Centre was a recipient of The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, in recognition of its sustained engagement with young and adult volunteers.
The Foundation’s management board meets on a quarterly basis to ensure that Walton Firs Activity Centre is delivering the Foundation’s charitable objects, and is subject to effective strategic, operational, and financial management.

Walton Firs Activity Centre is a Surrey-based provider of outdoor education services for children and young people aged between 5 and 18. We support young people to learn, develop, and enjoy in the natural environment, through our provision of high-quality and best-value education programmes. We provide open-access services for all young people within the stated age-range, including those who have not previously had the opportunity to learn within the natural environment due to their personal, social, or economic circumstances.
Thanks to our proximity to the M25 and A3, Walton Firs Activity Centre is within a ninety-minute journey for any group located in London or the home counties. We work in partnership with a wide range of youth and community service providers, including uniformed organisations and cadet forces; early years, primary, secondary, further, and higher education providers; statutory, commercial, faith and community-based youth service providers; children’s social care services; and vocational training providers.
Since the activity centre’s establishment, we have developed a wide-ranging curriculum of outdoor activity programmes and residential accommodation facilities within our safeguarded 35-acre site, and we currently have capacity to engage 25,000 service users per year. The activity centre offers over twenty-five land-based outdoor activities, including climbing, abseiling, high ropes, caving, and woodcrafts, and provides on-site accommodation though our dormitory, camping pod, and campsite facilities.
