Surrey County Council has published a needs assessment of young people in Surrey - “One in ten: A needs assessment of young people aged 13- 19 in Surrey” June 2010.
The one in ten reference is to the contention that 10% of young people have some significant need. The report is the most comprehensive needs analysis undertaken, and is likely to be the underpinning to the Council’s commissioning process, so it is of great significance.
The definitive assessment of the needs of children and young people is contained in “An assessment of Children’s needs in Surrey”(December 2007) which isused by the Surrey PCT and the Children and Young people’s Commissioning Partnership as a core document.
Statistical information about population trends can be found on the National Census website (Surrey section) http://www.statistics.gov.uk/census2001/profiles/43.asp
More information is also available on the County Council website (State of the County).
Surrey Community Foundation: It has produced an excellent publication called 'Hidden Surrey' aimed at identifying areas of disadvantage both geographically and by community group. Its purpose is to persuade corporations and high net worth individuals to donate funding to the Trust to address these areas. It is a valuable source of information for Surrey Youth Focus members writing grant bids and arguing for the needs of young people in Surrey.
A DCSF document released in June 2009 has statistical information: DCSF Youth Cohort Study and Longitudinal Study of young people in England: The activities and experiences of 17 year olds: England 2008.
