Salfords Youth Club opened its doors for the first time from 7pm – 9pm on Thursday 12th November at a refurbished Scout Hut. Parents and over 30 young people aged 10 – 16 attended and where provided with free entrance including a buffet, music and a fun celebratory atmosphere.
The club, which is to be held weekly, was initiated by the Parish Council, the Safer Neighbourhood Team and Surrey Youth Focus and will be run by a group of very committed volunteers.
PC Kinza Labassi comments that “until now there has been nowhere in the area for the local young people to hang out. We hope this facility with it’s regular Thursday meets will give the young people a focus”
Snooker, Pin Ball, Table Tennis and Computer Games in the chill out area are available now and as the kids get involved they can shape the activities as they see fit. The Club hope to run sporting events, hair and beauty sessions, cookery lessons etc in the future.
The Musician Newton Faulkener, a local himself, is very supportive of the project and is planning to attend a session in January.
