Surrey Youth Focus members may be aware that the Government has placed a deal of emphasis on the importance of positive activities for young people – sport, arts, youth clubs, volunteering, camping and so on.
This is measured through a National Indicator (NI 110): “Young people’s participation in positive activities”. Positive activities include a wide range of sporting, cultural and recreational activities and opportunities for volunteering. Recently the Government has been concerned about the alleged lack of “things to do/ places to go “ on Friday and Saturday nights and so are asking local authorities to survey what’s provided – sometimes known as the “youth offer”. The survey is not compulsory, but is advised, and should take place during the week commencing 1 February 2010.
