Finance Trustee & Legal Trustee
Girlguiding Surrey West is the leading charity for girls and young women in Surrey – with over 9,500 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Young Leaders and Volunteers. We are one of the largest Girlguiding counties in the whole of the UK. We also own two properties: Herons Wey in Farnham and Paxmead in Shepperton.

We are looking for two new trustees to join our board that already has a diverse range of experience. We are keen to recruit individuals with the following experience (these are indicators of the areas we seek to develop but are not exhaustive):

• Finance – to provide knowledge and experience of aspects such as investments in the charity sector and support our county Treasurer.
• Legal – to help support us in making key decisions around the future of our properties and/or knowledge of charity law.

The function of the County Trustee Group of Girlguiding Surrey West is to direct the general development and foster growth and spirit of the Guide Association within the County of Surrey West in accordance with the provisions of the Girlguiding’s Code of Conduct and policies and to ensure compliance with external regulations.

The purpose of the Trustees is to ensure the reputation of Girlguiding Surrey West is maintained including its membership and properties. It has responsibility for strategic planning and budgetary control and overall governance of the County as lead by the Steering Group (headed by the County Commissioner) and in accordance with Charity Law and the requirements of the Charity Commission.

Board meetings are held on four Saturday’s for two hours in Old Woking, Surrey. The position is for three years.

Individuals from any background, over the age of 18, with or without experience of Girlguiding are welcome to enquire for this role. More information about the county, including its annual reports can be found on our website www.ggsw.org.uk

Candidates will be short-listed based on the required skills and experience listed above, and we will make contact with you to arrange a discussion about your proposed involvement. The appointed individuals will be required to complete Girlguiding’s recruitment process, which includes a DBS.
